Resident concerned for poor construction in Highlands North

HIGHLANDS NORTH – A resident in Highlands North has expressed concern over a sand-filled trench in Athol Street.

Local resident Gerald Davids has expressed concern over a trench outside his property in Highlands North which has not been tarred over.

Davids said the trench was dug up to install cables near the slipway of Athol Street in Highlands North. He added that the construction of the trench started eight months ago and has yet to tarred over.

“They then filled it in with sand but it has never been tarred over,” said Davids.

He escalated the complaint to Ward 74 councillor David Fisher.

Fisher said he would escalate the issue to the Johannesburg Roads Agency for reinstatement.

Spokesperson for the Johannesburg Roads Agency, Bertha Peters-Scheepers said, “Any company or service provider who wants to dig up the road or do any construction on the road has to apply for a wayleave form which gives them permission to do it, and also states who will be responsible for the reinstatement of the road when the constructions is finished.”

Peter-Scheepers added that she would look into the issue and check the wayleave form to see which company is responsible for the construction.
