Kes in Houghton wins big in Olympiads

HOUGHTON – King Edwards VII School achieved stellar results at this year's SAICA and SAIPA Olympiads.

 

The King Edwards VII School in Houghton is elated following the school’s stellar performance at this year’s SAICA and SAIPA Accounting Olympiads.

The Olympiad is run by The South African Institute of Charted Accountants (SAICA) and invites exceptional mathematics and accounting youngsters in Grade 11 and 12 from schools selected by provincial departments of education and SAICA.

First place winner for the Gauteng SAICA Olympiad, Bowie Lai.

This year’s Olympiad was especially memorable for King Edwards VII School as they were named the top performing school in Gauteng for the sixth year in a row.

Head of the accounting department at the school, Cathy Avidon said, “What makes this year exceptional is that our learners reached our highest ever average of 81.64 per cent. Furthermore three of our learners hold the 1st place and tie 2nd place in Gauteng. We are delighted with these results.”

Bowie Lai in Grade 12 impressed and was awarded first place in the Gauteng competition while Corbyn Buziek and Tiago Jardim tied for second place, while the school won the overall Gauteng competition and their teachers, Cathy Avidon and Shanta Naidoo were named best educators.

 

Provincial winner and national runner-up for the SAIPA Olympiad, Nabeel Fazluddin.

The school also won big at the South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA) Olympiad where Nabeel Fazluddin from Grade 11 was placed first in Gauteng and tied for second place nationally with a stellar score of 94 per cent.
