Man hijacked while visiting a friend

Orange Grove – An unsuspecting victim was hijacked in front of a gate while visiting a friend.

Norwood police are investigating a case of a motor vehicle hijacking that took place in Orange Grove on 3 October.

“The victim was visiting a friend on 12th Street when two men pounced on him and hijacked him,” said Norwood police spokesperson, Captain Elliot Tshivhase.

Tshivhase said the victim had just parked outside his friend’s house’s driveway when an Audi A1 car parked behind his car.

“There were two occupants inside and one, carrying a firearm, approached him and ordered him to get out of the car and lie down,” said Tshivhase.

“While the victim was still lying down, the other suspect got out the car, searched the victim and took his phone and driver’s licence. One of the suspects then got into the victim’s car and drove away, following his accomplice,” he said.

Luckily the victim was not injured, said Tshivhase adding that no shots were fired.

A case of carjacking has been opened with the Norwood police and an investigation is underway.

Tshivhase said a manhunt has been launched by the police and urges anyone with information to contact the police.
