PARKTOWN – The men were arrested when police managed to track the cellphone which they had allegedly stolen.

Three men were arrested by Parkview police on 21 September for alleged theft and possession of stolen property.

One of the suspects, posing as a City Power official, was allowed access into a Parktown residence by a domestic worker. The man had said that a new meter needed to be installed, however, after the man left the domestic worker noticed that household items were missing.

Some of the stolen items included a laptop, camera and iPhone.

Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, the spokesperson for Parkview Police Station said, “The owner of the house was informed and the police were contacted. The stolen iPhone was traced and it showed that the suspects were driving to Johannesburg CBD.

The vehicle was searched and two laptops, a cellphone and a City Power jacket and card were found.

The suspects have appeared in Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court for charges of theft and possession of suspected stolen property.

The three men have been remanded in custody to allow for further investigation.
