Karabo Early Learning Centre takes to the streets

LOMBARDY EAST – The Karabo Early Learning Centre got the community together for a special Fun Walk.

The Karabo Early Learning Centre in Lombardy hosted a very special fun walk on 26 August.

Karabo Thage, principal of the Kew Branch and organiser of the event, said the walk was inspired by the launch of the eco-mobility festival in Sandton in 2015 and she felt it would be beneficial for the children and community to take on the ethos of the festival.

Parents and pupils of the Karabo Early Learning Centre’s Kew Branch have loads of fun during the fun walk.

The first walk took place in 2015. This year’s walk carried on the ideas of healthy living with over 450 people taking part, including parents and schoolchildren. The route took the children from the Lombardy branch of Karabo Early Learning Centre to the Kew branch and then back again, followed by a medal handover.

Thage said, “The entire event was amazing with support from the Metro police and the local community, who came out of their homes to watch and cheer the children and their parents.”

“It was also a good event for the parents, who were able to socialise, and for the children to play with their friends over the weekend, and create a community among our pupils and parents.”

Director of the school Margaret Thage said the walk and all the support around it were incredible. She said, “I think seeing parents with prams, chatting and spending time walking with each other and their children was a good thing for our community.”
