Two suspects arrested for Orange Grove café robbery

ORANGE GROVE – Two suspects caught, one bolts, after a robbery at a business in Orange Grove.

Two suspects were arrested on 12 September by Fidelity ADT security officers following a robbery at a café on Louis Botha Avenue in Orange Grove.

At about 8pm, the security officers received a panic alarm from the café. Two reaction officers were dispatched to the scene and, on arrival, noticed two suspects running out of the shop and jumping into a white Toyota Corolla.

The officers immediately gave chase and cornered the suspects’ vehicle. They ordered the suspects to get out, at which point one suspect made a run for it and the other two were caught by the officers. A second security company arrived to assist.

The vehicle was inspected and a firearm was found on the passenger seat floor. Items, including money and cellphones were also found in the vehicle.

The Norwood police were called and took the suspects into custody. The third is still on the run.

Natasha Springfield, community development manager of the security company, said the officers had responded in record time and took control of the situation immediately.

“Fortunately, the café owner had a panic button on hand, so we were alerted very quickly. We congratulate the officers on these arrests and commend them on their professionalism,” Springfield concluded.
