What are some of your favourite tales from Dahl, one of the world's best story-tellers?

Today is Roald Dahl Day and many are celebrating this much-loved writer and all his creations. Roald Dahl was born on 13 September 1916 and was a British novelist, short story writer, poet, screenwriter, fighter pilot, and even spy.

He joined the Royal Air Force at the age of 23 and supplied intelligence to MI6 after he was posted in Washington. He then got married to American actress, Patricia Neal, and had five children.

In 1961, Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach was published in the USA, followed by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Roald also wrote screenplays for the James Bond hit You Only Live Twice and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

He was also the author of MatildaThe BFG, and a treasury of original, evergreen, and beloved children’s books.
