Joburg East Cluster arrests more than 200 people

JOBURG – Police arrested 262 suspects from 28 August to 3 September for various crimes.

 

The Johannesburg East cluster arrested 262 suspects between 28 August and 3 September. Officers from Parkview, Jeppe, Cleveland, Rosebank, Hillbrow, Yeoville and Norwood police stations were patrolling their precincts when they made the arrests.

The suspects were arrested for the following:

  • 23 for drinking and driving
  • 3 for possession of suspected stolen property
  • 1 for domestic violence
  • 13 for fraud
  • 3 for shoplifting
  • 31 for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm
  • 20 for theft
  • 9 for possession of an unlicensed firearm
  • 1 for assault and intimidation
  • 1 for defeating the ends of justice
  • 4 for malicious damage to property
  • 2 for housebreaking
  • 16 for shoplifting
  • 1 for cable theft
  • 4 for common robbery
  • 19 for common assault
  • 11 for possession of dagga
  • 77 illegal immigrants
  • 1 for murder
  • 2 for reckless and negligent driving
  • 1 for child neglect
  • 1 for possession of dangerous weapon and common assault
  • 3 for kidnapping and robbery
  • 1 for theft of motor vehicle
  • 2 for contempt of court
  • 1 for the contravention of the Domestic Act
  • 2 for theft out of motor vehicle
  • 2 for selling liquor without a license
  • 2 for drug dealing
  • 1 for theft under false pretences
  • 2 for reckless and negligent driving­­
  • 1 for statutory rape
  • 1 for common assault and malicious damage to property.

Some of the suspects have appeared in different courts while others have paid their fines. Some suspects have been granted bail with others remaining in police custody.
