Minister of Communications, Ayanda Dlodlo’s residence has become one of the many houses broken into recently by criminals in the Joburg east suburbs.
A criminal allegedly broke into the minister’s daughter’s cottage, which is on the property, in an attempt to steal valuables.
The house, which is situated in Burford Street in Norwood, is heavily guarded but an intruder managed to gain access.
According to Norwood police, the cottage belongs to the minister’s daughter.
Captain Elliot Tshivhase, the spokesperson for Norwood Police Station, said the daughter was at the gym when the incident took place.
“The daughter was notified by her mother that her cottage had been broken into,” said Tshivhase.
“The daughter immediately rushed back home and found her cottage in a mess. The suspect, however, did not leave with the stolen goods as security guards saw him and he fled the scene.
“Jewellery, an iPad, watches and other valuables were almost stolen if the security had not seen the suspect.”
The value of the recovered valuables, according to Tshivhase, amount to about R20 000.
He said when they saw him they then gave chase but the suspect managed to flee the scene empty handed.
A case of housebreaking and theft has been opened and investigations are underway.
