Bags of Hope, an initiative which donates handbags filled with toiletries to vulnerable women, received a generous donation of handbags in celebration of Women’s Day.
Melanie Walker, a host on Radio Today and Megan Sparrow, an incentive programme manager at Superlative handed over their donation to Alyson Samson of Bags of Hope.
Samson, who runs a non-profit organisation called Kindness like Confetti, started the Bags of Hope initiative to celebrate Women’s Month but ended up extending it due to the great response.

Walker and Sparrow, who had heard about the initiative and took it upon themselves to gather as many bags as possible from friends, family and colleagues managed to donate about 50 handbags as well as various toiletries and goodies to Bags of Hope.
“The bags are for vulnerable women who are either in a shelter or destitute and who are trying to bring themselves up out of a bad situation. The whole thing is about donating a bag, you don’t have to go out and buy one,” said Samson.
Sparrow said, “It really just overflowed, it was fantastic because we had all these bags coming in and we couldn’t even get into our storeroom.”
Walker, who has been involved with many charities said, “I’ve always been involved with charities and when I heard about this I thought this is something that everyone can do.”
Samson said the whole organisation is based on paying forward kindness and helping others.
“I started off this project hoping to get 100 bags and we’ve already handed out 304 bags not including the ones from today as well as a box of bags at home so it’s performed far better than I ever expected,” said Samson.
Kindness like Confetti has been running for the past two years and although it has grown substantially, Samson said she likes that it is still small enough for each project to be personal. Samson noted that she isn’t sure who the bags will be donated to just yet as she wants to make sure they go to deserving homes.
