Parkview Police Station warns residents about a group of men acting as DStv installers who have been robbing homes in the area.
The station has received several complaints of house robberies around the area, all with the same modus operandi. According to Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, spokesperson for Parkview Police Station, it is alleged that a group of males have been driving around in a white bakkie with a canopy, wearing blue overalls and pretending to be DStv installers.
Sibeko said that one of the men from the group will ring the bell and inform the domestic worker that they were sent to install DStv and request the homeowner’s contact details and pretend to call the homeowner.
“As soon as they are inside the house, they ask the domestic worker to show them where they can install or repair the DStv and then they will take out a firearm. They tie up domestic worker’s hands and start ransacking the house,” said Sibeko.
“Parkview police would like to warn residents about these bogus DStv installers or repairers. Homeowners are advised to communicate with their domestic workers that if they do not give them information about any person coming to work at the house, then they should not open the gate.”

Sibeko added that if such incidents are experienced by domestic workers they should immediately press a panic button and contact Parkview police on 011 486 5000 or 011 067 6000.
