Women in blue celebrated

JOBURG – The important role female police officers play in their communities was highlighted during this event.

Female police officers from Parkview Police Station attended a conference for the Gauteng Provincial Women’s Network on 23 August in celebration of Women’s Month.

Women from 17 police clusters around Gauteng attended the conference to celebrate the role that female police officers play in their communities.

The Gauteng Provincial Champion Major General Anna Mateisi said women gathered to celebrate Women’s Month under the theme, Women of Hope. “The purpose of the event was to show women within the organisation that we are women of hope because when community members see us in our uniforms they see hope.

“We need to ensure that we provide hope for the victims of crime and that we address gender-based violence,” said Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, the spokesperson for Parkview Police Station.

Mateisi also added that as women in the police service, it is important to serve communities and provide a good service at all times.

Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Deliwe De Lange said she would like to encourage all women in blue to get involved in all aspects of service delivery. She further added that all police officers must serve and protect their communities with dignity.

All the women who attended the event received a pack of sanitary towels to donate to a schoolgirl in need. “The aim was to support girls who cannot afford to buy sanitary towels so that they do not fall behind with their schoolwork. The sanitary towels were donated to Thembinkosi Special School in Winnie Mandela Zone 2 Tembisa,” said Sibeko.

Sibeko concluded, “The police would like to thank Hope Restoration Ministries, Old Mutual, Capitec Bank, Forever Living and all the sponsors who assisted with the success of the event.”
