Man at Grietfest suffers injuries due to alleged gay bashing

“Something that was meant to be a night out with mates turned into a bloody gay bashing.”

A man has opened up an assault case after being attacked for allegedly being homosexual at Grietfest.

What was meant to be a great night out with friends at the festival in The Container Yard turned out to be traumatic for the 34-year-old man, Brandon Swanepoel.

He told media that the alleged perpetrator was uncomfortable with Swanepoel and his partner showing affection towards each other. Swanepoel said that even though he did nothing to offend the guy, he was still seriously attacked to the point where his nose was crushed and his teeth were knocked out.

This incident took place on Saturday during the festival in Johannesburg south and Swanepoel was later admitted to hospital for treatment and monitoring. He has since taken to Facebook to share pictures of his injured face and has condemned this cruel act.

On 29 August, he opened a case of assault at the Jeppe Police Station.

“Something that was meant to be a night out with mates turned into a bloody gay bashing,” he stated.

It has been reported that the damage inflicted will require extensive dental work and reconstructive surgery.
“If anyone can come forward with any information on the culprit, it will be appreciated and rewarded. I look forward to hearing why he would do this to someone,” said Swanepoel.

Grietfest has also taken to their Facebook Page to urge people to please let them know if they know anything that could help find the perpetrator.
No arrests have been made.
