Sandringham police implement new Ministerial Six Point Plan

Sandringham – The new plan aims to create an enabling environment for sexual offence victims to report it at police stations.

The new Ministerial Six Point Plan has come into effect and the Sandringham police urge victims of gender-based violence to familiarise themselves with these laws when reporting it.

The plan was launched on 18 August by the Minister of Police, Fikile Mbalula, at a ministerial action indaba held at the Velmore Hotel in Pretoria.

The plan seeks to ensure that proper procedures of reporting and registering sexual violence cases by the victims, women and children, and the police are followed. Sandringham police spokesperson, Captain Mohlaume Mamabolo

said the plan also provided for victim-friendly areas at police stations where victims could make their statements in private instead of making them at stations’ community service centres in front of the public.

“Also, they [victims] must now be assisted by a trained police official in a victim sensitive manner,” he added.

“The investigation should be conducted by the family violence, child protection and sexual offences investigation unit or a detective with relevant training.”

Victims should be proactively provided with feedback on the progress of their cases on a continuous basis, he said.

The plan is displayed at all police stations’ community service centres so that people can familiarise themselves with it.
