Manny and Jeanette donate campaign’s proceeds

Various needy organisations received resourceful donations to keep them warm during winter

The Christmas in July campaign proved to be a success and donations will soon be distributed to the needy in the community.

A request was made to the public to extend their helping hands and from their generosity and selflessness, many have heeded the call and donated.

Jeanette de Freitas, one of the organisers of the campaign, said people have donated toiletries, clothing and other resourceful goods.

“The response to the campaign has been a great success. Much greater than we could’ve imagined,” said de Freitas.

She shared the same sentiments and said there was a great number of donated goods, adding that more people were helped during winter.

Manny de Freitas, also an organiser, thanked the donors, saying this year’s donations have increased compared to last year.

“Thanks to the many donations of goods received, we’ve been able to provide so many people than originally planned, making their winter better than it would’ve previously been,” he said.

The first round of distribution was done at a women’s only Bienvenu Shelter during the winter season and the campaign organisers said the gifts were well welcomed.

“We also visited Casa Ebeneza, an old age home based in the south of Joburg,” said Jeanette de Freitas adding that the residents there enjoyed their company as well.

Based on this year’s successful campaign, this initiative may well become an annual campaign.
