Zoo Lake swimming pool ready to open on 1 September following revamp

PARKVIEW – MMC for Community Development Nonhlanhla Sifumba visited the Zoo Lake swimming pool to ensure it was ready to open at the start of swimming season.

The Zoo Lake swimming pool on Lower Park Drive has been cleaned up and will be ready to open at the start of the swimming season on 1 September.

The pool, which is currently one of 53 public pools open to the public, will be open until 31 March next year. The swimming pool underwent a revamp which included cleaning up the pool buildings and giving them a fresh coat of paint.

Nonhlanhla Sifumba, the Member of Mayoral Committee for Community Development recently did a tour of all the public pools in Johannesburg to ensure that they would all be ready come the beginning of September.

Ward 117 councillor, Tim Truluck said, “By 1 September the water should be sparkling and blue. MMC Sifumba assured us that there should be no problems with the supply of pool chemicals this year.”

Last year, R60 000 was donated to the Zoo Lake swimming pool by the Zoo Lake Water Polo Club when it was revealed that the pool might not open due to budget constraints. The money donated went towards retiling and painting the pool.

Gail Walters from the Zoo Lake Swimming Pool User Group requested that reflective tape be donated to the Zoo Lake swimming pool in order to scare pigeons away from the pool.
