Norwood Police Station gets a facelift

NORWOOD – Community aims to clean their entire police precinct including the police barracks

Residents visiting Norwood Police Station can expect a clean, tidy and revamped building, thanks to the community and their great efforts.

Norwood Community Policing Forum, in conjunction with the Ward 73 Women’s Forum, organised this cleanup campaign as part of the Women’s Day celebration on 8 August.

Enock Tshehla, Lesego Mookapele, Mbali Langeni and Nkele Mathaba are all part of the Women’s Day cleanup initiative at the Norwood Police Station.

They scrubbed and painted the walls of the charge office including the rails, swept the floors, tidied the outside building and further revamped the garden.

Mbali Langeni, NCPF public relation officer, said they managed to do all of these tasks due to the generosity of the sponsors and donors from the community at large including local businesses.

Langeni said they received paints, brushes, cleaning detergents and even lunch and further got financial support to ensure the success of the day.

This initiative is aimed at improving conditions at their police station. “We want to change the face of our police station and give it a new look that will encourage our officers to work in a healthy environment,” said Langeni.

“This was made possible by all who heeded the call and donated these resourceful materials that we are using today,”

Most of all, she said, all thanks goes to the women who made it possible for this to happen.

Community members of Ward 73 take part in a cleanup campaign earmarked to improve the conditions at the Norwood Police Station.

The idea was proposed by the women’s forum who saw a need to celebrate Women’s Day differently by contributing their time and energy revamping the station.

The forum’s executive member, Nkele Mathaba, said they wanted to use this day to make a significant contribution to the station.
