Heroes in talent needed

SOPHITOWN – The Shoprite centre in Sophiatown will play host to star-struck hopefuls in September as community members give their all at the Heroes in Talent competition.

The Shoprite centre in Sophiatown will soon be turned into a battle zone as star-struck hopefuls give their all at the Heroes in the Talent competition.

The Westdene Sophiatown Residents Association (WSRA) in partnership with Bianca Hatting will be hosting an exciting talent competition for members of the community. The best news of all is that anyone can enter and there are various categories including dancing, singing, music, acting, acrobatics, juggling, clowning, DJing, magicians and gymnastics.

“What better way to unite communities in and around Westdene and Sophiatown than by celebrating the talent we know exists among our residents. The WSRA is inviting our local talent to enter the competition before the end of August. If you are a future superstar then you should enter or if you know of a friend or family member who has a special talent, tell them about the competition,” said Philip Engelbrecht, a resident of Westdene and WSRA member.

All ages and categories will compete against each other in front of a panel of judges, including Abonga Mabovula (Huflo Music Productions), Christoff Berg and Raymond Ray (Rymstoff), who are all experts in their fields.

The event itself will take place at the Shoprite centre in Sophiatown on 2 September starting at 9am. It promises to be a fun day of entertainment for the entire family with popular new Afrikaans group, Rymstoff, making a special appearance.

“The competition takes place on the first weekend of spring so bring friends, bring family and come and enjoy a day of entertainment featuring the Heroes in Talent entrants and with a performance from Rymstoff, as the cherry on top.”

To compete, entrants must collect entry forms at Shoprite in Sophiatown, from the Moneymarket counter. These forms must be completed and handed in by no later than 26 August. Participants under the age of 18 must have parental consent and be accompanied by an adult on the day of the competition.

The winners of the various categories will be taking home exciting prizes plus the grand title of Superstar.
