Follow these tips to avoid shopping mall robberies in Johannesburg

BRAMLEY – Tips to follow when leaving shopping malls.

 

Bramley police, on behalf of the great Johannesburg North cluster, has provide tips to help residents avoid becoming a victim of carjacking and armed robberies after leaving a shopping mall.

Spokesperson for Johannesburg North Cluster, Captain Molefe Mogodi said, “While criminals are resorting to all sorts of tactics, we are not intimidated and shall continue to serve and protect our community with pride and without fear.

“The modus operandi used by the criminals is that they will identify the would-be target and wait for him or her to drive off. Thereafter the victim will be followed until the criminals find the suitable place to rob the victim. Usually they would follow the victim home or to their workplace.”

Mogodi called on all residents to remain vigilant and shared the following tips:

  • When in a shoppping mall, check for suspicious individuals around you
  • Additionally, before getting into your car, check if you are being followed
  • Do not talk on your cellphone when you are approaching your car
  • Lock away all your belongings in the boot
  • Always check your car mirrors when leaving the mall
  • Leave enough space between your car and the car in front of you to be able to escape if caught in a carjacking situation
  • If you suspect that you are being followed then drive to your nearest police station
  • Know your sector vehicle contact numbers so that if you feel unsafe while driving home you can contact them for assistance.
