The King David Linksfield Primary School seventh graders hosted their third school SleepOut on 29 June.
School SleepOut ambassador Mbongeni Sibanda thanked them for rising to the challenge. He also reminded his fellow students that while the School SleepOut is fun, it’s important to remember the essence of the event, which is to empathise with those who are forced to live outside in the cold.
Pam Green, who started the social upliftment organisation Second Chances, told the youngsters her story.
Her organisation aims to give second chances to individuals with the skills and intellect to do better, but who are forced to live from hand to mouth. Her organisation aims to find employment for the homeless with the help of social media.
The pupils spent the evening collecting essential items for the non-profit organisation Impilo, that cares for abandoned babies. They also made sandwiches for the homeless community which they handed out the following morning.
