A celebration of glass recycling at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Club

LINKSFIELD – The Glass Recycling Company hosted its annual glass dialogue to illustrate the benefits of recycling glass.

 

The Glass Recycling Company hosted its Annual Green Dialogues at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Club on 28 June.

The dialogue involved a panel who tackled some of the successes and challenges facing recycling bodies and South Africans in the fight against climate change, irresponsible waste management and pollution.

Speaking at the event, chief executive officer of the company, Shabeer Jhetam explained that recycling of all food and beverage glass packaging has incrementally increased to 41.1 per cent which illustrates the continued growth and impact on sustainability in the country.

The event illustrated the widespread benefits of reducing, reusing and recycling glass. “As our influence grows, we are passionate about fulfilling the mandate of reducing glass waste in South Africa and diverting glass products from landfills into a new product life cycle,” said Jhetam.

He said that the event showcased the origins and goodness of glass and its recycling can save water and preserve energy in the fight to slow down climate change.

Jhetam expressed appreciation to the individuals in various sectors for their dedication to this cause.

“Together we work together as seamlessly as the four elements, creating a new world and a sustainable future for us all.”
