Resident of Inyoni Creek Retirement Village in Lyndhurst turns 90 years old

LYNDHURST – Inyoni Creek resident Golda Britany celebrated her 90th birthday.

Inyoni Creek Retirement Village resident and qualified music teacher, Golda Britany was elated when she celebrated her 90th birthday on 15 June.

Golda, along with her husband Michael, celebrated her birthday at the retirement village’s clubhouse with 70 of their closest family and friends while reminiscing over a traditional South Africa braai.

She was born in Johannesburg and enjoyed a prosperous career as a music teacher for 29 years. Music played a huge part in her life with her father being a bass player for the South African Broadcasting Services and her cousin, Hilda Bor, being an accomplished opera singer and piano teacher for Prince Charles and Princess Anne.

Before moving into Inyoni Creek eight years ago with her husband of 65 years, they enjoyed traveling the world. Britany said, “I had wonderful experiences travelling to the far east and going on a magical cruise to Mauritius.”

The couple also ran one of the first of five Mica hardware stores in Gauteng for 30 years, and have operated another two businesses as well.

Today, Golda enjoys jigsaw puzzles, playing bridge and reading. She has two children, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

“She is a wonderful woman. Golda and husband Mike are very active in the Inyoni Creek community,” said Jenny Tonkin, the manager of the Rand Aid-run retirement village.
