10-year-old writer launches second book

Award-winning writer Stacey Fru launches her new book at the Savoy Library.

Award-winning 10-year-old writer Stacey Fru hosted a special book launch at the Savoy Library on 22 June for her new book Bob and the Snake.

Fru published her first book Smelly Cats in 2015 which went on to win Best ECD Publication of the year in the special mention category. She said that her inspiration for writing came from watching her mother Victorine, who was writing her master’s paper. She soon moved towards crafting her own work.

The bubbly little girl hosted a group of excited fans at the book launch, giving an inspirational talk about her journey in writing and pushing the young children in attendance to believe in their abilities, and the importance of reading.

Fru highlighted the importance of expressing oneself and said, “I write to express my imagination, and for me, it’s the funnest way to do that. I think everyone should find their own way of expressing themselves and what goes on in their lives.”

Stacey described her new book as one focusing on the themes of trust and family.
