A vehicle was petrol-bombed in Sunnyside, Pretoria, while onlookers filmed the incident. The footage was posted to social media and shows the vehicle moving backwards toward traffic. A police van is seen reversing out of the way and bystanders begin pulling out their mobile phones to record the incident.
The taxi eventually crashes and stops on the pavement, engulfed in flames. The Rosebank Killarney Gazette contacted Uber after social media reports stated that vehicle in question was an Uber taxi. Uber has confirmed that it was not one of their vehicles and that this incident is not related to them. Reports of a person dying in the flames are not yet confirmed.
