Sticker collection for Jazz on the Lake goes smoothly and Fearnhead park gets TLC

PARKWOOD – Fearnhead Park has been revamped.

In a stellar effort of community togetherness, Saxonwold and the Parkwood Residents Association held a successful sticker collection for residents so they can access their suburb with ease during the annual Jazz on the Lake event.

As everyone came together, the organisers also strolled through the park and filled rubbish bags, making the park cleaner for the community’s enjoyment.

Stickers were collected at the Fearnhead Park in Parkwood, situated between Dudley and Blandford roads on 4 June from 9am to 12pm. Residents were required to provide proof of residence and persons who are renting were required to provide a letter from the property owner in order to receive a sticker.

Residents were also encouraged to take their children, and their dogs on a leash, and make the most of the morning when coffee, water and treats were on sale. For those who could not make it, there will be another collection day held later in the year.

Ward 117 councillor Tim Truluck was also present to engage with community members about problems they may be facing the area.

Tracy Davies explained that the residents association gave her the park revamp as a project. She then got the Rosebank Police Station involved and the police conducted regular raids at the park.

Davies also roped in City Parks and managed to get the park clean and safe for the community to utilise. “We decided to give out the stickers at the park so that the community could see the park and how beautiful and safe it is and, therefore, utilise it more,” she said.

“That, in turn, will make the park safer and also keep it clear of vagrants if it is used regularly by the community and is well maintained.”

Davies added a big thank you to everyone who helped with the revamp project. The swings in the park were also revamped.

Truluck commended the initiative and said it was great to see associations taking back their parks, making them more community friendly and keeping them well maintained. He advised other associations to follow the association’s lead.

A group of schoolchildren also played a role when they cleaned up the park for their shool community hours.
