Alleged car thief attacked by angry mob in Yeoville

YEOVILLE – A man who a mob believed was trying to steal a car is beaten in Yeoville on 6 June.

An incident of mob justice took place on Rocky Street in Yeoville near the local library following an alleged attempted theft on 6 June.

The situation started at approximately 9am when it is alleged that the suspect attempted to break into a parked vehicle but was soon caught by local residents, who had to lock himself in the vehicle for safety.

According to an eyewitness, “The police were called in and, by this point, a large group of people had gathered around the vehicle.
“He was scared for his safety as people outside wanted to deal with him as soon as he got out. The residents of Yeoville are tired of the theft out of motor vehicles if I should add.”

A mob attempts to remove a man they believed was trying to steal a motor vehicle.

Once the door of the vehicle was opened the crowd grabbed him and attacked him before the police could intervene.

The Yeoville Police Station has been approached for comment and an update will be published as soon as it becomes available.
