Weinberg, Gresswold parks get facelifts

SAVOY – The projects will yield jobs for local labourers

Ward 74 councillor David Fisher said work was underway to upgrade Gresswold Park and Weinberg Family Park, formerly known as Savoy Park.

Work started at Gresswold Park on 29 May and the project is expected to last for three months, said Fisher.

He added that they would construct an all-purpose soccer pitch for a local team that trains at the park and they will also erect a boundary fence around it.

“We will also have a new gym for residents to keep a healthy lifestyle and ensure positive upliftment of the community.

“We will, however, keep the trees to maintain its essence of beauty and ensure it remains user-friendly for the locals,” said Fisher. This will help preserve a sense of pride for the ward and during the consultation meetings, residents echoed their support of the projects, he added.

Residents could expect noise from the contractors and a lot of movement by heavy duty trucks delivering material, and

Fisher apologised for any inconvenience it may cause the community.

“This is beneficial to the community considering this will create a more inclusive environment for the locals,” he said.

The Gresswold Park project has already created jobs for locals and more people are expected to be employed, according to community liaison officer, Tshepiso Maselwane.

“Lots of people are excited about this… we hope that many more people will also benefit from the projects,” she said.

“We hope that they will get jobs during the construction and even after the construction work has been completed.”

Details about the Weinberg Family Park will be published as soon as they are made available to the North Eastern Tribune.
