Reach for a Dream Foundation hosts ‘Queen for a Day’ to celebrate 11 little girls

MELROSE NORTH – Eleven little girls were shown royal treatment at the Fire and Ice Hotel.

The Reach for a Dream Foundation hosted a Queen for a Day event for 11 young girls currently battling life-threatening illnesses at the Fire and Ice Hotel in Melrose Arch.

The girls were collected from the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital, Johannesburg and taken to the hotel where they were treated to a day of indulgence, filled with fun activities and pampering.

“The main objective for this day is to uplift the spirits of young girls who are suffering from life-threatening illnesses,” said Karen Hunt, the administrator for Reach for a Dream.

The girls began the morning with fabric painting activities after which they were surprised by a visit from Boipelo Mabe, the 2017 Miss South Africa second princess. “At this point, the room is filled with giggles and smiles,” said Hunt.

The girls were treated to a delicious lunch followed by modelling lessons with Mabe. Each girl had the opportunity to walk down a red carpet showing off their confident, sassy moves.

Each little girl was given a sash and crowned Queen for a Day to remind each little one that despite fighting a life-threatening disease, they will always be a queen. “Reach for a Dream showers each child with positive attention to create memories that will assist them through their treatment,” added Hunt.
