Successful drug bust for the Hawks at ORT International Airport

PARKTOWN – The Hawks recovered 50kg of drugs at OR Tambo International recently.

 

The Hawks Serious Organised Crime unit, which is based in Parktown had recovered about 50kg of drugs with an estimated value of R4 million at the OR Tambo International Airport, on the 29 May.

“Hawks members received information regarding suspicious unaccompanied luggage with false flight tickets at the international arrivals carousel. Further investigation led to the recovery and seizure of three backpacks containing ephedrine weighing 50kg concealed in foil,” explained Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu spokesperson for the Hawks.

It is alleged that the luggage was offloaded from a flight that landed in the morning from Lagos, Nigeria.

No arrests have been made and the investigations continue.
