Torah brings fun, educational building blocks

ORCHARDS – Torah Academy Nursery School brings a fun-filled opportunity for learning through their Lego programme.

The Torah Academy Nursery School has begun a Lego programme to help preschoolers learn through the exploration of their emotional and physical world while having a whole lot of fun.

The school in Orchards is the second in the country that is participating in the project.

The project, which aims to ‘build education, one brick at a time’, was made available to the school through an anonymous donation of R80 000.

School principal Sara Bronstein said, “Our Lego programme has intrigued and wowed the minds of teachers and children alike. We are talking about new-age, play-based learning – colour, 3D, team-based, fun, yet all-encompassing of physical, social, linguistic, numerical and emotional skills, all in one programme.”

The younger groups have been given soft bricks to play with and the older groups a large number of the new, versatile Duplo Lego sets. In addition, there is the formalised six-brick programme with pyramid and colour associations.

Spokesperson for the school, Suzanne Belling said, “The little ones have caught on to the project but there are much more advanced levels available for when they are older, culminating in robotics, which is a practical way of investigating the principles of simple machines, mechanisms and structures.”
