UPDATE: Hillbrow mass-murder accused to appear for bail hearing

JOBURG – Update on Hillbrow mass murder case.

The Hillbrow mass murder accused, 29-year-old Sabelo Ngubane will appear for his formal bail application on 31 May before his next scheduled appearance in the Johannesburg Regional Court on 22 June.

Following another postponement on 23 May to allow for further investigation, Ngubane will appear at his bail hearing, this time with legal representation.

At Ngubane’s last appearance, the court heard that post-mortem results for all five deceased had been completed, while post-mortem statements, crime scene photographs and a ballistics report remain outstanding.

With the likelihood that the matter will be transferred to the High Court of South Africa, the regional court heard that a provisional decision had been made and that the relevant docket would be handed over to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in order for a State advocate to be assigned to the case.

In his first appearance on 10 May, Prosecutor Talita Louw opposed bail as Ngubane faces Schedule 6 offences under the Criminal Procedures Act.

He has been remanded in custody at Johannesburg Prison (Sun City) pending his next court appearance on 22 June. He is charged with five counts of murder and two others for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
