Alleged car thieves denied bail by Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court

KILLARNEY – The two accused pretended to be interested in purchasing a car at a dealership and then allegedly took the keys from the sales person and made off with the vehicle on 12 May.

 

The two men accused of allegedly stealing an Audi A4 in the south of Johannesburg appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on 23 May and were denied bail.

According to Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo, spokesperson for Hillbrow Police Station, the two accused pretended to be interested in purchasing a car at a dealership before allegedly taking the keys from the sales person and making off with the vehicle on 12 May.

Suspect two has been denied bail by the Johannesburg Magistrates Court on 23 May because he is a re-offender.

Zondo said, “After allegedly stealing the vehicle, they proceeded to Killarney Mall and parked the car in the basement parking. The police helicopter was then alerted and the suspects were approached by officers from the Johannesburg North Trio Cluster. Upon seeing the officers, the duo made a run for it and abandoned the car in the parking lot.”

Police gave chase on foot and apprehended the suspects.

Two unlicensed firearms and a car jamming device were found in their possession.

The case has been remanded to 31 May.
