Sneakers4Change and some local celebrities teamed up to collect shoes and warm the hearts of those in need of cosy footwear this winter.
Sneakers4Change is an initiative that aims to collect shoes and donate them to children at homes and orphanages in Johannesburg.

This winter season campaign, under the theme #NoColdFeet, is a drive not only aimed at warming the feet of the underprivileged but also igniting the spirit of overcoming challenges, looking beyond your circumstances and standing bold, confident and strong,
Chairperson of the Sneakers4Change campaign, Sbusiso Zulu offered two reasons why this would be a fitting theme for 2017. “Cold feet in its literal sense means experiencing cold on one’s feet. Cold feet is [also] a commonly used expression meaning lack of confidence, fearful and [frightened] and is also synonymous with the connotation of shivering.
“This [campaign] will highlight the lack of footwear [owned] by the needy and, secondly, highlight the spirit of triumph [among] South Africa’s youth.”
Twilight Children’s Home in Hillbrow is the recipient of the donated shoes in Johannesburg, along with another home in the Western Cape.
Explaining why donating shoes is equally as important as blankets or clothes, Zulu said, “Commonly there is a lack of understanding of how much physiological and psychological discomfort one can experience by not having anything on their feet.”
At the end of April, the initiative hosted its most recent shoe collection event where gospel singer and brand ambassador Thloks performed and launched his new album, Ao Modimo.

The initiative has gained great momentum since its opening in 2015 and over the past 10 months has handed over 500 pairs of shoes to the Twilight Children’s Home, Emmanuel Children’s Home, Skateistan SA, Johannesburg Children’s Home and Barona Children’s Care Centre.
Do your part by dropping off a pair of shoes into one of the marked shoe bins around Johannesburg and make someone’s winter a little better.
