Police arrest 129 in connection with serious crimes in Jeppe

JOBURG – Suspects have appeared in the Magistrates' Court where some paid bail while others were remanded into custody.

Police from Jeppe, Cleveland, Hillbrow, Rosebank, Norwood, Yeoville and Parkview stations have arrested 129 suspects between 8 to 14 April in connection with various crimes.

Police members from these stations in the Johannesburg cluster were patrolling their policing precinct when they made these arrests, said Captain Richard Monyai, cluster spokesperson.

“Some of the suspects were on the wanted list after cases were opened against them while others were arrested with assistance from the community,” he said.

The suspects were arrested for following crimes:

  • 20 for assault with the intention to do grievous bodily harm
  • 18 for common assault
  • 9 for theft
  • 10 for possession of unlicensed firearms
  • 12 for possession of stolen goods
  • 4 for dealing in liquor
  • 13 for possession of drugs
  • 2 for rape
  • 1 for murder
  • 3 for shoplifting
  • 1 for armed robbery
  • 1 for pointing a firearm
  • 14 for fraud
  • 4 for possession of dagga
  • 1 for possession of nyaope
  • 5 for robbery
  • 3 for business robbery
  • 1 for possession of a dangerous weapon
  • 3 for possession of a hijacked vehicle
  • 1 for whom a warrant of arrest has been issued.

Monyai said most of the suspects have already appeared in court. Some of them are out on bail while others were remanded in custody while investigations are continuing.
