Five men accused of being part of the ‘Dagga Gang’ who allegedly terrorised the community, is expected to apply for bail at the Jeppe Magistrates’ Court on 18 May.
Doris Mujadi, Boris Mulopwa, Mbuyi Alongolongo, Salamu Lutumba and Dikuta Maxi made a brief appearance in court on 24 March.
The gang is accused of terrorising and assaulting residents in the Yeoville, Bertrams and Bez Valley area using pangas and other dangerous weapons.
Magistrate Willem Britz postponed the case for further investigation after the State said it was not yet ready for the matter to be heard. The case was transferred to their court by Magistrate Mahomed Jaybhay from Court 1.

Prosecutor Mxolisi Nkomo told the court that they were not ready to continue with the case because further investigation was necessary. “We are not sure why it was brought to this court. We are also still waiting for the photos of the victim,” he said. He explained that the photos will form an important part of the State’s case.
Britz postponed the case to 17 May to give the State time to conduct their investigation.
All five suspects were remanded in police custody. They will apply for bail when they are back in court on 18 May.

North Eastern Tribune has been reliably informed that the photos were submitted to the State by one of the victims whose name is known to the paper. The victim is a key witness in the matter.
The case will be heard in Court 2.
