Sandringham police call upon community members to assist in investigation of teenager death

LOMBARDY WEST – The Sandringham police are calling on the Lombardy West community and surrounds to assist in an investigation.

Sandringham Police Station is calling on the community for co-operation following the discovery of a male teenager who was allegedly assaulted to almost death in Lombardy West on 1 April.

Following the initial report published in the North Eastern Tribune, week ending 26 April, the Sandringham police officers are calling on the community for information with regards to the victim.

Spokesperson for Sandringham Police Station, Captain Mohlaume Mamabolo, said the teenager was found half naked on Birmingham Road with a tyre around his body.

He added that the victim, estimated to be between 17 and 19 years old, was still alive when the police arrived. He was rushed to the nearest medical facility for treatment but succumbed to his injuries.

Mamabolo added that according to the police statement, no one wanted to elaborate about what happened while other residents said that they found the teenager on the street in that condition.

He said, “Others [recognised him and] said he was a problematic child in the area. A day before, he allegedly robbed someone.”
No arrests have been as of yet and although the teenager was recognised, his exact identity is currently unknown.

Mamabolo said, “We are appealing to the community to assist with the information that may to the apprehension of the suspect[s].”

The police are also calling on the community to come forth with information that may lead to finalising the identity of the victim.
