Little ones at Craighall and Parkhurst Primary Schools delighted in a visit by mini zoo

PARKHURST – Students from Parkhurst Primary School and Craighall Primary School loved the opportunity to interact with some of their favourite animals from the Boomerang Channel.

Craighall Primary School was the winner of first Boomerang Mini Zoo competition, a competition that allows a school as well as a less fortunate school the opportunity to view a mini zoo at their school.

Seven-year-old Unam Mbane won the competition for her school, Craighall Primary School, and chose Parkhurst Primary School as the winners of the prize too. On 11 and 12 May, Craighall and Parkhurst Primary received their visits from the mini zoo.

“I was so excited when I heard that the Boomerang Mini Zoo was coming to my school. I can’t believe they picked me!” said Mbane.

“I was a princess for the day like Marina the Mermaid from Zig and Sharko – I even won the mini quiz at the end! I really loved the dog Scooby and learned that you must not feed your dog dirty water or chocolate, or raisins – he will get very sick!”

The students had the opportunity to sing and interact with some small, furry and four-legged animals under the supervision of an animal specialist. Some of the animals at the mini zoo included a kitten, a duck, and a goat as well as a very large hissing cockroach.

“We really love this initiative. Here at Boomerang we believe in educating our audience in a unique, fun and interactive way, through exciting kidcentric, educational content. We believe that children have a special kind of love for animals and get really excited when they get to play and interact with them,” said Pierre Branco, Turner Africa’s vice president and general manager of southern Europe and Africa.
