YEOVILLE – See which local playwriter needs your help and why.

Ishmael Sithole, a playwriter from Yeoville, is looking for a producer and funding to commission his movie which he believes will dominate the television screens in Africa.

Sithole has completed writing his script titled, Motherland, however, he lacks funding to realise his dream.

“The movie is about leaders getting voted into power by the electorate only to turn against the very same electorate by abusing that power through acts of corruption, cronyism, murder, rapacious kleptocracy and plunder,” said Sithole.

He said most African leaders have total disregard and manipulate the very constitutions that guided them into power.

“I felt that such stories have not been told enough and as an artist, I felt I must play a part in telling a story that exposes uncouth leaders and end a situation whereby outlaws are wielding the law in their palms.

“The movie is about a twisted and vengeful demagogue who abuses his power by creating an extra-judicial body tasked with executing, killing, interrogating and hunting suspects of the botched assassination that took the life of his wife,” Sithole said.

Sithole holds a bachelor degree in education from the University Of Zimbabwe and said his movie exposes negative consequences of abuse of power, cronyism, blatant corruption and extortion among many other evils.

He said he has written to various funding institutions to get them to fund his project but to no avail.

“I have written to organisations such as National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) but so far I have received no response. The funds needed are for the equipment of the crew, salaries of cast, attire and hiring of acting sites.”

According to 41-year-old Sithole, the movie qualifies as a feature film on television or a fully-fledged film on the big screen.
