Thloks is pushing his gospel tunes in Jozi

JOBURG – Johannesburg is the city of dreams, and one more muso has come to the city to pursue his.

Letlhogonolo Moloi is straight out of the the North West province, and ready to get into Johannesburg’s music scene.

“As an aspiring gospel artist, I started singing from my early years, at 15 years old in Magong [North West Province]. Moving from my home town to Johannesburg in pursuit of my dream, I needed to identify what it was that would put me up there,” said the musician who goes by Thloks.

A self-professed go-getter, he attributes his big move to the big city to his drive and willingness to progress. It’s this and his love for music that has pushed him to create an album with the aim to entertain and connect with as many people as possible.

“The one unique thing about me, especially on the brand-new first gospel album that I have compiled, is that I make my own gospel beats and they are mostly live instrumentals. I want my music to touch lives and change people for the better,” he said.

“I believe that music unites people, therefore the music I do is in different languages – Tswana which is actually my home language, Shona from Zimbabwe, Nyanja from Malawi, Zulu in South Africa, English which is one of the official languages, and Ibu the Nigerian language.”

On the album titled Ao Modimo (Oh God), he has worked with a lot of people including producer Ngoni Chimbo, owner of Casa Preta Records where the album was recorded.

“I have worked with good vocalists like Eve Bapela, Lerato Moloi, Chantelle, Nigel Chimbo and Patience Pepukai Mukuwapasi. I have also collaborated with one Nigerian Ambassador named Prince Okwu.”

Tlhoks has graced a number of stages with artists such as Dr Tumi, Kgotso Makgalema, Given and his mentor Prince Okwu; also using his voice to represent important causes.

“I am a giver and as a result, I am the ambassador of Sneakers4Change Charity Drive Organisation set to give a sole to a soul, meaning providing the less privileged with shoes and other things they need.”
