Workers’ Day euphoria had Metro police officers of the Roodepoort High-Speed Unit on ultra-high alert on 1 May as they apprehended a number of motorists in certain parts of Johannesburg for various law infringements.
“Officers arrested 10 motorists for travelling 40km above the 120km/h speed zone on the N1 south near Maraisburg on Monday, 1 May. They also arrested a male suspect in a white Toyota Hilux with false number plates which was stolen in Pretoria and was travelling at a speed of 176km/h,” said Metro police spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

“The driver of a Kia that was stolen at a house in Northcliff and caught travelling at 152km/h, was also arrested. The unit also discovered an AK-47 inside a Mercedes Benz that was speeding. The officers managed to grab the gun but the suspects escaped.”
All suspects arrested are set to appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court soon.
