Drug trafficker denied bail at Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court

PARKTOWN – The Hawks find a 5kg bag of cocaine wrapped in foil in a woman's bag.

 

Drug trafficker Lena De Waal, who is facing charges of contravening the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act, was denied bail at Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court on 18 April.

According to Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu, spokesperson for the Hawks Parktown, De Waal (33) landed at OR Tambo International Airport on 16 April from Sao Paulo, Brazil.

“Hawks were following up on information regarding a suspected drug mule who was reported to have boarded a flight from Sao Paulo, Brazil the previous night. A routine check was conducted at the check-in points and authorities recovered 5kg of cocaine with an estimated value of R2 million concealed and wrapped in foil inside the suspect’s luggage,” explained Mulamu.

The suspect was immediately arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime.

De Waal was remanded in custody and the case has been postponed to 25 April for a formal bail application.
