Ward 73 councillor Irene Rugheimer visited Future Nation School in Lyndhurst on 7 April and had an opportunity to do a walkabout in the classes and ask the children to share with her what they were doing.
Future Nation School is a project-based-learning school and is a 100 percent owned subsidiary of the Sifiso Learning Group. The school aims to prepare children to excel and succeed in their personal and professional lives by creating a solid foundation to live and work in a modern, ever-changing environment. The school also provides them with spaces that are aesthetically pleasing.
After her visit at the school, Rugheimer explained that entrepreneurship and leadership are key to the Sifiso Learning Group’s curriculum and their aim is to be the leading learning group in Africa.
“Students get to use the content they learn to solve real problems through completing and exhibiting projects to other students, teachers, parents and the broader community. The curriculum is highly structured while developing students’ ability to work independently and enjoy it at the same time,” said Rugheimer.

She said it was lovely to feel the enthusiasm of children enjoying themselves while they are learning and it was also awesome to see the staff and children interact.
Currently, the school caters for Grade R, Grade 1 and 2 as well as Grade 7 and 8, said Rugheimer. In 2018, she said they will be expanding to include all Grades up to Grade 9.
“There are currently only 60 learners at the school. There will only be 25 learners per class, which allows the teacher to give each learner the attention they require,” said the councillor.
The vision of Future Nations School is to build a network of affordable private schools across South Africa that offer an excellent education which is characterised by student-centred learning.
