A seven-year-old dies after a gate falls on top of him in Joburg
JOBURG - The child suffered severe head injuries.
A seven-year-old boy was killed when a large gate outside a shop fell on top of him in Johannesburg CBD.
Shortly after 2pm, paramedics from ER24 arrived on the scene where they found several people on the scene. Bystanders explained that they managed to lift the gate off the child before paramedics arrived. Upon assessment, they [paramedics] found the child with severe head injuries. He had no signs of life and there was nothing that paramedics could do for him. He was later declared dead on the scene.
Once paramedics declared the child dead, members of the community became hostile towards the owner of the shop. Members of the police managed to calm them down and cordoned off the area.
The scene was later handed over to police for further investigations. At this stage, it is not clear how or why the gate fell over onto the child.
