Alleged armed robbery at Louis Botha Avenue garage in Norwood

WAVERLEY – An armed business robbery allegedly took place at a garage on Louis Botha Avenue and is currently being investigated by Norwood police.

Norwood police are investigating an alleged business robbery at a garage on Louis Botha Avenue.

Spokesperson for the Norwood Police Station, Captain Elliot Tshivhase said a cashier was approached by an unknown suspect carrying R50 in his hand at about 2.38am.

Tshivhase added, “He was then followed by an armed suspect. The armed suspect pointed his gun [at the cashier], threatened [the cashier] and demanded money. Soon after, the suspect holding the R50 note jumped over the counter and opened the till.”

Tshivhase said they took all the money from the till, cans of Red Bull and cigarettes and fled the scene in a black Honda Civic.

“The total value of the stolen items including the money amounted to R35 000. No shots were fired and the complainant was left with no injuries,” said Tshivhase.
