The Angel Network assists Impilo with upcoming comedy fundraiser at Barnyard Theatre

Fairvale – Impilo child protection and adoption services are in financial straits and invite members of the community to attend their fundraiser on 22 April.

Fairvale-based child protection and adoption service organisation, Impilo, is in financial difficulty, and non-profit organisation the Angel Network is helping the organisation to keep up their stellar work.

Founder and director of Impilo, Sue Krawitz said, “We are a child protection and adoption organisation. We started off in 2003 as a place of safety for six children. We now care for 12 children in our system and we work with over 200 children.”

She added that their primary areas of work involve caring for children medically, physically and emotionally while also placing abandoned children into families. The organisation also assists children through the legal and child court system.

Krawitz said, “The court system is very complicated and a very long process. So we are the advocates for the children while also taking care of them.”

With financial difficulty placing a burden on the organisation, the Angel Network, which works with 50 centres and safe havens, took Impilo as their primary project this year.

Founder of the Angel Network, Glynne Wolman said, “Impilo [just got] under our skin. They do the most remarkable work, caring for hundreds of children all over.”

Wolman said even though the Angel Network primarily collects important supplies such as food and clothing for various organisations, Impilo needs money desperately to help fund day-to-day operations.

She added, “They need money for the carers and social workers who run Impilo. When they started 13 years ago, there were two people, now there are 22 workers.”

Both Impilo and the Angel Network have collaborated in a fundraiser in the form of a comedy show featuring some of South Africa’s greatest talent at the Barnyard Theatre in Rivonia. With acts such as John Vlismas and Mark Banks, they want to secure donations from the public to help Impilo carry on their work of caring for children.

The fundraiser will be held on 22 April.
