Bramley View residents demand basic services from Joburg City as soon as possible

BRAMLEY – Councillor says she is aware of the issues in Bramley Ext 12 and plans are underway to address them.

Residents of Bramley View in Ext 12 want the City of Joburg to instal speed bumps and street lights in Van Vuuren Street as soon as possible.

According to some residents, they fear for their children’s lives due to cars speeding on this busy road every day. They made an urgent call on Ward 73 Councillor Irene Rogheimer to address the issue.

“If you could see the way the cars drive here you will really be scared. It [looks] like they are Schumachers,” Lebo said in reference to the former Grand Prix star driver.

Lebo, who did not want to give her surname added, “We also want street lights… because there is a high rate of crime due to the dark conditions around here.”

Residents also asked Rogheimer to help with naming the side streets adjacent to Van Vuuren Street. These streets have not been named since the suburb was established.

Rogheimer said she is aware of the community’s issues, and plans are underway to discuss them. “I have received an application [for] street lights in Van Vuuren Street and it is still [being considered] by the City of Joburg. Regarding the naming of the streets, we will start the process as soon as possible,” she said.

The City’s Regional director Liziwe Makoro also promised to look into the issues raised and to follow up on their requests. “I am aware of the request for street bumps. It has been submitted to the relevant department and it is still under consideration.

“I will follow up and I will [respond] when we have a proper meeting again in the near future,” Makoro told residents in a meeting held on 14 March.
