Beware of armed robber on Louis Botha Ave

JOBURG – The suspect armed with a firearm will approach you under the guise of asking for change or food.

 

The Community Active Protection (CAP) security group issued a statement warning motorists about a suspect who is committing crimes along Louis Botha Avenue.

According to the statement the suspect ‘armed with a firearm will approach you under the guise of asking for change or food.’ While the motorist engages with him, he will reveal his firearm and demand valuables. The suspect has been spotted at a number of traffic lights along Louis Botha Avenue at various times of the day. The majority of incidents reported to CAP security took place from 7am to 9.30am and also from 5.30pm to 10.30pm.

According to a notice issued by the security group, the suspect sometimes has an accomplice with him who can be ‘easily identified by a clear injury below his left eye, as well as puffy cheeks with possible acne’.

Community Active Protection is urging all motorists travelling on Louis Botha Avenue to be extra vigilant and to adhere to the following safety recommendations:

Avoid being distracted by your passengers, the radio or your cellphone while you are driving

  • Keep a safe distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you
  • Keep all your valuables out of sight – your handbag should be stored in the boot of your car or under the seat
  • Keep your windows closed to create a barrier between yourself and a potential robber
  • Be highly cautious of anyone who approaches you while you are waiting at the robot.
