Yellow is the colour of her music

JOBURG – Zoë Modiga releases something new for her fans

Zoë Modiga’s fans have been begging and she’s answered. This jazz and soul princess is now launching her eagerly awaited album Yellow: The Novel.

Born in Durban, Modiga moved to Johannesburg where she attended school at the National School of the Arts in Braamfontein, studying classical piano, clarinet and singing, before she went on to major in jazz vocals at the University of Cape Town.

The music industry sat up and took notice of the talented young singer when she won the 2015 South African Music Rights Organisation (Samro), an overseas scholarship competition for singing, in the jazz music category.

It was last year, however, when Modiga became a household name as one of the popular contestants of the first season of The Voice SA, taking her spot as one of the top eight finalists in the competition.

Her voice is also instantly recognisable on Amazing Grace under the film scoring of Kyle Shepherd in the Oscar-nominated movie, Noem my Skollie. In addition to her work on the soundtrack, she has also been part of some exciting festivals and shows including Johannesburg’s annual Joy of Jazz festival and the world renowned Cape Town International Jazz Festival.

Now, coming into her own and releasing her own album to her fans she said, “It’s been a long time coming but I’m very excited to release this labour of love and body of work to you.

“On Yellow: The Novel, Modiga writes a body of work inspired by self-realization and the human experience, much like a novel.

This 23-track album has soul, jazz and a proudly African feel, which is described as compositional work with stage presence presentation.
