Three-day joint operation to clean-up Parkview greenbelt

PARKVIEW – Arrests have been made during a joint operation held recently.

In a concerted move to clean up the greenbelt area and enforce City bylaws to combat crime, ADT Security has spearheaded a landmark three-day joint operation with Home Affairs, Pikitup, Metro police, City Parks, SA police services, the City of Joburg and other private security companies operating in the area.

According to Etienne Schnaar and Wayne Lamprecht, ADT community operations managers, there has been an increase in criminal activity in many of the areas bordering the greenbelt and it’s feared the problem could exacerbate if there is not compliance with the City’s bylaws related to people living in public open spaces.

Joint operations began on 7 March at the Randburg Police Station and extended to Parkview police, the next day and will end off at Linden a day later.

A quick meeting at the Parkview Police Station before the operation began.

Pikitup personnel, escorted by ADT and CSS, arrived early in the morning following the operation to collect all the rubbish that had been moved onto the road. The areas covered included Craighall Park, Parkhurst, Parktown North, Parktown West, Parkview, Greenside, Emmarentia and Zoo Lake Park.

The operation, supported by three vehicles from CSS, 10 vehicles from ADT and one from NYPD Parkview Precinct was a great success resulting in 35 arrests.

“The officers were all highly professional and need to be commended. None of this would have been possible without the incredible co-operation and support of Randburg police’s colonel and captain.

A special thank you to all the stakeholders including Home Affairs, Pikitup, Metro police, City Parks, City of Joburg and the police. The initiative has been an incredible success,” concluded Schnaar.
