WATCH: Attempted housebreaking foiled by an Orange Grove resident

ORANGE GROVE – A video of an attempted robbery on 8th Street in Orange Grove has gone viral on social media.

A video circulating on social media of an attempted housebreaking foiled by a resident surfaced on 14 March.

The video shows three suspects who attempt to break through a security gate with the alleged intent of robbing the main house on 8th Street in Orange Grove. But halfway through the video, the resident filming the crime in progress interrupts them, which causes them to flee the scene.

Chairperson of the Norwood Community Policing Forum Wandile Yani said, “It is clear that they have no respect for the law. They have no respect for anyone, seeing that they can do this in the middle of the day.”

Yani wanted to know where the police were during this attempted robbery. He said, “All the police stations have a crime prevention unit. Where were the police? Where was the police car? This is not crime prevention.”

He added that he is in conversation with the heads of the police and will raise this issue with them.

The North Eastern Tribune was unable to get hold of a police official for comment by the time of publication, but an update will follow as soon as it is received.
